Homework
The students will be using an assignment notebook book to record daily homework. Please look for this to come home every night. I ask that you initial the book after your child has completed the work. You may also include any notes to me in this notebook. Homework you can usually expect is:
Monday - Bull Dog Log & reading comprehension
Tuesday Bull Dog Log & math (Home Connections)
Wednesday - Bull Dog Log
Thursday - Bull Dog Log & math (Home Connections)
Friday - Bull Dog Log
BDL - (Bull Dog Log) Students need to read AND record each night. They will record the book and time read. Parents will help record the minutes to date because students earn rewards each time they read 200 minutes. Parents must also sign their BDL each night. Another VERY important requirement on the BDL is practicing math fact fluency. This should take place and be recorded every night.

Spelling
Your student will be participating in a word study program that is tailored to their needs. The students will be given a developmental assessment as well as a sight word assessment to gain knowledge of their needs and strengths. On their assigned day, students will take a test to assess their word knowledge. Throughout the week students will practice these words in various ways during our Word Work block. They should also practice their words at home each night, in addition to normal homework.
Math Fact Fluency
Students should come into third grade fluent in addition facts. This means they can complete 100 addition facts in 5 minutes or less with 95% or above accuracy. In October, we will move on to subtraction fluency. By the end of October/beginning of November students are expected to pass the 5 min. subtraction assessment. Multiplication will be completed in January and Division in March. It is extremely important that you work every night on math facts. This is the foundation for all math skills.
Folders
Please be sure to check your child’s Take Home Folder daily and ensure it is returned to school daily.
Behavior Management
We will be using Class Dojo to track behavior. Don't forget to sign up, so you can instantly see your child's behavior in the classroom. Students will be rewarded with points for displaying excellent behavior in the classroom. They can also lose points for skills that they need to work on. Students will have opportunities to earn rewards with the points that they earn.
Snack/Birthday Treats
Students may bring in their own individual snack daily. One simple, healthy, snack is allowed, which will help them to stay focused and alert.
You may send in birthday treats for the class to celebrate your child's birthday, if you wish. If your child has food allergies which prohibits him/her from typical birthday treats, I am happy to store your labeled alternative treats for your child.
